Improve postnatal care – the Cinderella service – NCT

Improve postnatal care – the Cinderella service – NCT.

The latest report on postnatal care from the National Childbirth Trust (click the above link) highlights, among other things, shortcomings in information provision to new mothers about their own health as well as their baby’s health.  Women undergoing interventions such as caesarean section were particularly likely to have unmet needs.

One thing we are seeking to do through the EEPD is help make available appropriate information to maternents [i.e. recipients of maternity care] at the point of need.

That’s only one way that the EEPD approach would improve postnatal care.  If midwives etc. didn’t have to waste so much time and so many resources dealing with multiple or inappropriate data entry they would be able to spend a greater percentage of their working time on real patient-centered care. I was told recently by a midwife that she estimated spending 70% of her working day on data entry and form-filling of one kind or another!
