About time too

27 July, 2012 (09:04) | Initiatives, National Programmes, Patient-Centered Care, Standardisation | By: Helga Perry

There’s a lot of news coverage today about the call from the Royal College of Physicians (RCP) for the standardisation of observation charts and introduction of a National Early Warning Score (NEWS).  We note that NEWS is not recommended for use in pregnancy or children under 16, but it’s a welcome step in the right direction.

As can be seen from our growing collection of perinatal paperwork, there is no standard way of recording anything in maternity care and no agreement on the questions that should be asked – and the same applies in every other clinical specialty!

All the more reason  for each specialty to identify its chronologically-arranged, flow-patterned  questions and all allowable answer options, as  with the  EEPD Resource Document.
